Stanley Park

Historical walking tour through Indigenous eyes

This place has been the home to our peoples and tribes for thousands of years and we are happy to share our rich history with you. This experience highlights the unique Indigenous stories, oral history and perspectives of our experiences with the explorers, traders, settlers as well as the current aspects of our tribal communities today.

What to Expect

Spoken Treasures is a historical walking tour told through Indigenous eyes; an opportunity to listen, reflect, and walk on these lands with awareness. Guided by a Talaysay Cultural Ambassador, this tour shares the stories and lived histories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples, whose ancestors have called this place home since time immemorial.

The experience offers truth without embellishment. You’ll hear about pre-contact life, the impacts of colonization, and the resilience of Indigenous communities today, not as distant history, but as a continuous story that shapes who we are.

At the heart of this tour is reciprocity: guests are invited to listen with respect, to hold what is shared with care, and to consider how learning on this land creates responsibility.

Every Spoken Treasures walk concludes with a cup of Indigenous tea, a quiet moment to reflect, ask questions, and share in dialogue.

Where We Meet

We begin our Spoken Treasures walk at the Stanley Park Information Booth, a gathering point just steps from the entrance to the park. From here, we follow the Seawall toward the Totem Poles, tracing a shoreline where generations have gathered, traded, and shared stories. The tour concludes at the totem poles, a powerful space to reflect on the histories and continuities of the Coast Salish peoples.

This route offers guests a quiet, reflective walk through one of Vancouver’s most iconic landscapes; a place where culture, land, and memory are deeply intertwined.

Accessibility: The path is mostly paved and highly accessible, suitable for wheelchairs, strollers, and mobility aids. Paid parking is available near both the Information Booth and the Totem Poles, with a short, easy walk between the two locations for those who prefer to park at one and finish at the other.
