  • Porpoise Bay Provincial Park 6428 Marmot Road Sechelt, BC, V0N 3A4 Canada (map)

Nourishing Kinship Within the swiya

Spend the day exploring the beauty of Porpoise Bay Provincial Park through Indigenous-led, land-based learning designed for youth ages 9–13. Rooted in connection to the land, ocean, shíshálh language, culture, harvesting, art making, and shared food, this immersive experience invites participants to learn through curiosity, creativity, and hands-on discovery.

Throughout the day, youth will take part in activities inspired by Salish Sea & Me, Talking Trees & Harvesting, Art Making ʔe te Swiya, and a bannock and berries cooking workshop. Together, they'll build meaningful connections to nature, culture, and community while creating memories, learning new skills, and having fun outdoors.

Nourishing Kinship Within the swiya is a fun, hands-on outdoor program for youth ages 9–13 to explore nature, culture, creativity, and connection.

Set in the beautiful Village of klaalth (Porpoise Bay Provincial Park), participants will spend the day learning through Indigenous storytelling, land-based activities, ecological exploration, traditional harvesting teachings, art making, and sharing food together.

Inspired by Talaysay Tours' Salish Sea & Me, Talking Trees & Harvesting, and Art Making ʔe te Swiya experiences, youth will discover the relationships between people, plants, the ocean, tides, shíshálh language, and the lands and waters that surround us.

This program encourages curiosity, confidence, and respect for the natural world while creating meaningful connections with culture, community, and place. Through games, creativity, and hands-on learning, participants will leave with new knowledge, skills, and memories to carry with them throughout the summer and beyond.

Where We Meet

We gather at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, a beautiful coastal setting where forest, shoreline, and Sechelt Inlet come together.

Our meeting point is near the interpretive sign and playground, just steps from the main parking area. From here, we begin our Nourishing Kinship experience by slowing down, connecting with place, and exploring the relationships between plants, people, and the land.

Surrounded by forest and shoreline, this setting offers a meaningful space to learn about Indigenous plant teachings, traditional knowledge, and the ways plants continue to nourish and connect our communities.
