Talking Trees
Through story, sensory learning, and plant teachings, you will discover the cultural, ecological, and practical importance of the trees and plants that surround you. Each walk is shaped by the land, the season, and the group. This 90-minute experience is an invitation to slow down, listen closely, and reconnect with the living world.

Your experience begins with a gentle introduction from your Talaysay Cultural Land Ambassador. Together, you will follow the forest pathways of Lynn Canyon and explore how Indigenous peoples have lived in relationship with the land since time immemorial.
Through story, sensory learning, and plant teachings, you will discover the cultural, ecological, and practical importance of local trees and plants, including their uses for food, medicine, technology, and culture.
Along the way, you will learn about stewardship, selective harvesting, and reciprocal relationships with the land. You will be invited to slow down, notice the forest's details, and reflect on your own connection with the living world.
Where We Meet
We gather outside the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre in North Vancouver, a forested setting rich with trails, waterways, and diverse ecosystems.
From the Ecology Centre, your guide will lead you into the surrounding forest, where the land and the season shape the stories and teachings shared along the way.
The forest becomes a living place for story, observation, and learning.
Experience Details
Accessibility: This outdoor experience follows uneven and varied forest trails, which may limit full accessibility for some guests.
Cultural focus: Coast Salish history, Indigenous ecological knowledge, relationships with plants and trees, and cultural connections to the forest.

Arrival Information
What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy walking shoes with good traction, rain protection, a refillable water bottle, a small backpack, and any personal medications you may need.
Trail conditions: Forest trails may be uneven, damp, or muddy. Please dress for changing weather and varied terrain.
Parking: Available nearby.
Washrooms: Located at the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre.
ASL interpretation: Available upon request. Please let us know in advance so arrangements can be made.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your experience begins. Your guide will meet you outside the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre.
